Honor Guard - 1 funeral, Oct 23- Armory in Conway for WWII vet 

AVVA -  wants to meet with the AVVA members after next meeting.

Fundraising: Sam’s Club 7,8.  Walmart 21, 22.  Confusion over pick up and drop off of tables, MJ Hayes showed the quilts she will be selling to benefit the chapter

Old Business: Andrews Parade, be at Main St., ceremony at Armory.  Be there to form up at 12:30.  

Military Appreciation Days May 14-16.  Discussion on particulars

Rick Power - donating 2 Vietnam pictures - will raffle them for the chapter in December 

New Business

Chapter will not pay for the Christmas dinner

Correspondence - State Council meeting at Short Stay.  

Honor Guard - 1 funeral, 1 flag dedication.  Oct 23- Armory in Conway  

Fundraising: Mary Jo showed us some quilts that she will be selling to benefit the chapter.  Sam’s Club 7,8.  Walmart 21, 22.

Old Business: Military Appreciation Days May 14-16  VVA taking lead role May 14 - Veterans and Friends Golf Outing, May 15 - Educational Outreach May 16- Parade, picnic, dinner/dance at night

New Business: Jerry Hearl - Honor Guard - requested new ground flag holders, approved.  Jerry and Charles and wives went to the Short Stay State Chapter meeting.

Honor Guard -  No funerals

AVVA - tracking hours spent working in their communities.  

Fundraising:  $2091 raised at Sam’s Club.  November 7 and 8 - Sam’s Club

Walmart Ocean Lakes - opportunity for fundraising.  Maybe Nov. 21-22.  

Old Business: State Council appreciated our hosting food at last meeting.  Ron Thornton report on 50th Anniversary Vietnam Vets programs.  

New Business:

Horry County ATA - November 6 and 7.  Andrews - Parade Nov. 8th.  Would like Honor Guard.  Sign up next meeting.  September 19th - Stand down for homeless by AARP…at Reserve Center in Market Common.  8 AM - 2 PM.  6:30 PM at Warbird Park - POW/MIA ceremony - Rolling Thunder

Sept. 28 - Moose Lodge, Bercale Rd.  Gold Star Mothers 2 PM

Honor Guard -  No funerals, parade and Sam’s - great

AVVA: nothing

Fundraising:  $2091 raised at Sam’s Club

Old Business:  Parade - thanks to Ron Kim for the wonderful sign.  Host the State Council meeting Sunday in Columbia.  Jerry Nugent is going with Mary Jo and Kathy..need one more for presenting the colors.

Bob Hawkins - Military Appreciation Days - thanks for participation (since the beginning).  Best one so far based on attendance and positive feedback.  Planning starts now for next year.  May do kickoff May 1 for Military Appreciation Month.  Also planning 50th Anniversary of Vietnam.  

Memorial Day in Conway - largest turnout by public.  Jerry thanked all who participated.

Military Appreciation Committee from the Chapter - Chair, Gary McCormick.  Members - Ron Thornton, Rich Gregory

Jerry commended MJ Hayes for the key rings.  Went very well.

New Business: Look into fundraiser at Costco and some of the Walmart’s.  Steve Cheseboro will look into Costco.  Steve talked about parade and fundraiser and what it meant to him.

Chapter will provide water for people at fundraiser and the float for Memorial Day.

New Business: Discussed Vietnam Moving Wall coming to Myrtle Beach.

Kathy and Mary Jo are taking food for the next State Chapter meeting, June 8th.  Need at least one more person so that chapter can present the colors.

Old Business - Sams , Myrtle Beach, May-23-24-2014, pens and poppy sale,, sign up sheet passed around. Pens, to be given to Vietnam Vet,. only,  

State Chapter meeting, Columbia, June-08-2014, Chapter 925 to supply food and drinks. Note, Mary Jo and National- State VVAA are to take the food and drinks for this meeting and also be the delegates for Chapter 925.

New Business -  Update from Bob Hawkins, parade Myrtle Beach, 5-24-2014 ,meet same place last year,set up no later than 9:30 a.m. Starts around 10:30 a.m. Bob Hawkins also mentioned that one of the Vietnam Moving Wall was coming to Myrtle Beach in May of 2014. He would be sending out a e-mail on this event, for help as needed.

National-State VVAA requested that we as a chapter needed at least one VVAA - { associate - member } motion made to nominate, Marilyn Squires as

the VVAA for Chapter 925. Chapter voted to do so, Marilyn accepted position as a associate -member.

General discussion on up coming National Conferenced Chapters, meeting, August 2014, in Wichita City, Kansas. This, to be reviewed next chapter meeting,on cost and whether  someone from the chapter would be able to go.

Honor Guard - well done in Georgetown.  

Fundraising:  May 23rd and May 24, November 7, 8 at Sam’s Club

Old Business:  Grant filed by Mr. Long with Walmart for $2000.  It will take 90 days to hear back.  He is willing to file grant applications for other.  

New Business: State Council Meeting on March 9th.  Mary Jo is going to go.  Kathy Keister is going to attend also as National VVA chair.  We are hosting the State meeting in June.  

Mr. Barry Watson of Watson’s Funeral Home was here.  Make sure your family can find your DD-214 so that the funeral director can provide a flag and you can be interred in a National Cemetery.  If you served before 1980, no length of service is not needed for National Cemetery.  After 1980, you need 24 consecutive months of service.  No length of residency in SC is required.  National Cemetery will furnish grave space, vault, and head stone.  Spouse also can be interred but must pay for vault.  They have sections for cremations for interment.  131 National Cemeteries and 3 in SC (Beaufort, Florence, and Ft. Jackson)

Make sure you also have any insurance policy where it can be found.  Funeral director can move insurance company faster by filing for you.

Honor Guard - funeral tomorrow in Georgetown

AVVA:   Kathy Keister would like to see an AVVA president.  Encourage your wife to join.

 Fundraising: Sam’s Club May 24 and May 25th (will double check as dates on Sat, Sunday), November 7 and 8th

Apply for a grant from Sam’s Club in February…$500 hopefully.

Old Business: Charles checked on pens. 300 pens for $219.   Maaco’s has better prices so we’ll check.  Motion to order pens whichever is best deal.  MJ Hayes will make keychains.  

Ocean Bay Middle School, March 7th - Education Outreach

Mr. Watson - he will get here to explain about funerary services for vets.

Communications: Few cards from people we gave gift cards to.

Honor Guard - had quite a few funerals this past year.  2 new members of the guard bringing our number to 12.

Fundraising:  need to have more, maybe 3 weekends.  Veterans Day and Memorial Day. 

Old Business:  Education Outreach, Ocean Bay Middle School, March 7th

New Business: Discussion on getting more members through advertising, talk about pens with our VVA chapter, Charles will check pen price, Baxter brought up about jar grippers, Scouts, DD-214’s, Ocean Bay, Mileage checks
