Chapter 925 Meeting, November 7, 2017

Treasurer Report: $not on web

Membership:  106 VVA (92 Life members), 16 AVVA (10 Life) for 122 total.

Correspondence - From CAIO…$500 donation.  Thank you card from Clay and Mary

Honor Guard - 1 funeral, 1 fundraiser for homeless vets.  Parade at 9:30.  Black, long sleeve.  Ceremony at 11 AM  

AVVA - Spouses can join.  Coupons are still needed and still coming in.

Chaplain -  no other info than Bob Hawkins and Tom Middleton

Fundraising: Friday and Saturday, Nov 10 and 11 at Sam’s Club.  Need more sign ups for certain times.  

Old Business:  Education Outreach - tomorrow- Horry ATA.  George Wilhoit, past president, has passed away.

St. James teachers - Socastee teachers - we are not going there.  

IRS - emailed our Region 3 director - called National - talked to CFO.  Have to pay $125 transaction fee to resolve this.

Christmas - Marilyn talked about 2 women thru ECHO who are in great need.  We now have 12 cards that are spoken for.  

New Business:  Need new memorial plaque 

Buried George Wilhoit last week.  Charles spoke on George’s impact on him and this chapter.  Motion to give George’s widow $500.  Approved.

Terry - State Council meeting - 3rd highest membership in the state.  Region 3 in March.  Good educational conference.  PSA - Marine Corps Dinner on Nov 11, Veterans Luncheon in Little River, NMB Sports Park Veteran’s Day, Market Commons History Tour - Military Tour.  

Jerry gave an inspiration speech about the next generation.  Riley Grace, Ron Kim’s granddaughter, wrote a thank you on a napkin.  50/50 $75, $50 donated back to the chapter.

Correspondence

Honor Guard - quiet last 2 or 3 months.  Nov 11 Veterans Day in Conway.  2 block parade at 9:30 so Honor Guard will carry the colors.

AVVA -  Thanks for all the coupons.  Members needed for Sam’s.

Chaplain - absent, Bob Hawkins is on oxygen 24/7.  Going back for more tests and starting radiation.  Lloyd not using his cane as surgery was successful.  Clyde is not doing well.  He is our oldest member.  Needs help Saturday on moving.

Fundraising:  Nov 10 and Nov 11 at Sam’s Club.  Need sign ups.

Old Business:  3 members were at POW/MIA ceremony.  Stand down on the Sept 22 - a lot of homeless vets were there.  ECHO organization is great help in working with vets, homeless or in need.  Terry spoke about Hutton House in North Myrtle Beach.  Ron Kim spoke on the great VA clinic here in Myrtle.  

New Business:  Start working on Christmas.  By next meeting, we need names.  Last year, we did 10 cards at $250.  Motion for $250 and 12 cards.  Approved.

IRS - letter garnishing our account.  $874 but that has been given back.  Working with IRS  on fixing this.  

Last Tuesday involving Tom and Dee Middleton, at a book club about a book in which Tom was one of the Green Berets in the book “A Murder in Wartime.”

We were in the latest VVA magazine.

State Council - 925 supplied the food.  Most of the discussion was on the Region 3 Conference in Greenville on Easter weekend.  Learn a lot at these.  Another meeting in October.  Terry made a motion to give $500 to SC State Council for the Region 3 conference.  Approved.  

Question: Does the DAV still burn retired flags on Veterans Day?  No.  American Legion in Murrells Inlet takes them.

Rick Power - wrote article for VVA magazine.

Honor Guard -  no funerals over summer - Blue Star Mothers want to join us at Veteran’s Day.  Event for homeless vets - we will do presentation of colors and candles ceremony.

AVVA -  still collecting coupons..make sure you cut them out.

Chaplain - Bob Hawkins finishing up his chemo, will start radiation

Fundraising: November 10th and 11th at Sam’s Club.  Approved.

Old Business: Disability cut is off the table.  Last Man Standing is still under discussion.

New Business:

Sara McVickers reelected as Region 3 director.

POW/MIA day at Sept 15th at 6:30 at Warbird Park

Myrtle Beach Stand Down - Sept 22

Andrews Veteran Day parade - November 4th.  Looking for people to go.  

Honor Guard - Ron asking to buy a second set of flags - motion and approved

Money donated to Harvey victims - tabled

Plaques to be made for large donors.  Mary Jo’s quilts will be given 

Public Information person - Rick Powers - approved

Jerry is ordering chapter t-shirts.  He will order about 20.

Mary Jo has 17 quilts that are still available.  

Next Saturday - Marine Corp League 8 PM in Little River

Chapter members pass away and members don’t find out until after the fact…make a list of who to notify in event of your death.  

Delegate - Terry Steer - scams targeting vets to update your VA records.

Old Business:. Memorial Day - good days

New Business: Provision in new budget looking at 100% disabled.  May reduce payments. May impact property taxes that are forgiven due to 100%.  Please contact your congressman.  

Terry - going to State Council.  Will VVA become a last man’s club or do we become something else.  There is a committee looking at this on the national level.  Discussion followed.

HR. 1162 - No Hero Left Untreated.  Take a look at it…about PTSD and MRI treatment

AVVA - still collecting coupons, card for Ray Witt and his wife as she has cancer

Old Business: Dinner Dance - Motion to sponsor press for $120.  Passed.

Education Outreach - March 29…have 9 signups.  Motion to continue with current board members.  Will open it up again to the floor.  

Parade for Military Appreciation Day - filled out paperwork for it.  

New Business: 

$100 hole sponsor for MOAA golf tournament

Delegate report - Terri -make sure your wife knows where your DD-214 is.  Veterans cemetery burial is free.  Use PaperSafe to store documents.  Talked about liver flukes…get checked for Hepatitis.  Terri is going to State Council next week.

August 8 - VVA National Convention in New Orleans

Ocean Bay Middle School March 29.  

Election in April for Officers.  

SignWorks will sponsor 100 Pelican tickets.

Old Business: Dinner Dance still on May 25th - need sponsors.  Woodsman of the World voting on buying 5000 flags again for parade.  Our Cub Scout pack will hand them out on the parade route.

New Business:   David Eaddy’s widow - motion for $250 to be sent.  Amended to $500. Passed.

Myrtle Beach, Greenville, Charleston - in running for Region 3 convention.  125 rooms, meeting rooms, entertainment.  3rd or 4th week of April, 2018.

Election in April for Officers.

Terri reported on Dec. 12 State Council meeting - possible 2 new chapters - Anderson and Dillon.  10 September - 925 is responsible for food .  vvasc.webs.com for newsletter.
