- 5 Honor Guard going to Gathering of the Flags in DC on the 11/11, Palmetto Point Harbor this Friday, 11/11 at Conway Court House, Nov. 12 - Veteran’s Golf Outing, Long Bay Symphony on Nov. 13. Nov 22 - Vet’s Expo. Black long sleeve shirts.

AVVA -

Chaplain - Terry is still out, Mary Jo is very sick, Gary’s wife is in the hospital

Fundraising: Nov 11 and 12 at Walmart in Garden City. Need people

Old Business: Hector got the Honor Guard decals. Rich - flagpole here at Golden Corral will be coming soon.

New Business: City of Andrews putting up Vietnam Memorial Nov. 5. Christmas Dinner - members pay their own way, Cards for Social Work Dept at VA Clinic, Veterans Cafe, Freedom Fido’s, Community Kitchen, Jaime’s has one, Bill Abel has one, Going to do 8 $300 Walmart Cards - motion, approved.

State Council - not asking for any receipts for Gathering but chapter will keep them. Leadership Conferences - talked about tiny houses. State Council gave money to help build them. Camp Lajuene - careful who you get. DD-214’s - don’t keep…we never did keep them since it was a security risk. PACT Act - hypertension. If you die of a service connected disability, file for DIC so that compensation continues for the widow.

Correspondence - Rich’s church having a speaker on PTS. Will be in January

Honor Guard
- 2 funerals, 9/11 ceremony, 11/11 coming up, concert at Fantasy Harbor on the 4th, Long Bay Symphony ceremony on 13th.

AVVA -

Chaplain - Terry back in the hospital. Rich’s granddaughter was in ATV accident. Clyde, former member, is bedridden.

Fundraising: Nov 11-12 Garden City Connector at Walmart. We will be stretched thin as 5 guys going to DC, Conway 11/11 ceremony. The more we make the more we can give to needy vet families at Christmas.

Old Business: PACT Act - file right away. Camp Lejeune - file for that. Watch attorneys fees.


New Business: Doug Layman runs a golf tournament at Myrtlewood. He donated $1200 to the chapter last year from this event. If anyone can donate a raffle prize, that would be helpful.
American Legion - looking a collaborative effort between all organizations for an Honor Guards.
Truman - of MOAA - vets with financial difficulties, MOAA can do a $500 grant. They started a Veterans Education Program with Miller-Motte and HGTC at no cost and working for getting vets employed. Stand down this Saturday at Waccamaw Tribal Grounds in Aynor. Vet Expo again at Market Commons Nov. 22

In next 2-3 years, National will discontinue life membership rebates. State Council meeting this weekend

Hector Ramos started a fundraiser page for VVA in Puerto Rico and looking to help FL VVA chapters

New Business: Need a lot of help for the fundraiser. Can sign up through our website. Hector will put a donation can out at Convention Center.
Going to order another box of poppies for fundraiser.
Donation of $100 to Veterans Last Patrol, approved.
Bob McCann found a 22 tee shirt on Amazon about the 22 suicides of military members each day. Ron Thornton talked about Freedom Fido’s and how he affected an individual who was going to commit suicide otherwise.

AVVA - Marilyn is no longer AVVA rep. No elections at this point.

Chaplain - Rich Sliker just had a pacemaker placed.

Fundraising: May 27-28. Walmart Neighborhood Market at Market Commons.
Looking at getting Veteran’s Day at Walmart across from Ocean Lakes. Looking at future event at Bass Pro Shop or Mission BBQ.

Old Business: Military Appreciation Parade coming up in May. Go to website to register. Rich filled out chapter registration.


New Business:
Jen from Barnabas Horse Foundation spoke about their mission working with kids, veterans, etc. Monday mornings are veterans time.

Motion - $500 donation to Barnabas Horse Foundation
Bought new table for fundraiser. Drill into table to secure jars.

State delegate report: POW meeting in Greenville this year. Election and financial reports are due. SC website received an award.
vvasc.org is current website.
Leadership Conference August 8-14 in Greenville, SC. Challenge coin will sold at conference at this point. Same slate of officers for this term. Next State Council meeting is June 12 at American Legion in Columbia.

vvasc.org is council site. New chapter in Aiken. AVVA events coming up. Leadership conference in August. Election of officers - ran elections with same officers. Going to create a challenge coin for State. $12 9 POW convention - reunion in May in Greenville.

New Business: Gary Thomas passed away. Elections this year for chapter in April. Memorial Day parade in May and also Memorial Day in Conway on Monday.
State Council is in Columbia on Feb. 13th
Charles Davies submitted a hotel bill for the Convention. Motion approved to reimburse him.

- thanks to all the Honor Guard. 26 events but only 2 funerals.

AVVA - Sandy - collecting coupons. Ones from Oct. 1 to now. Chapter elections are in April this year. Sandy is still Person of Contact. Need a person to be representative.

Chaplain -

Fundraising: Thinking about one in May. Sam’s Club is not allowing yet. Try the Walmart in Market Common again. Look at scheduling for November also.

Old Business: Money for KY tornado relief to VVA chapters. Quilts of Valor is not very active.

New Business: Convention - Sandy went to all the meetings. Elected new Board. Anyone of any age can be members. Terry - 665 delegates. Information on convention is in your VVA Magazine. Issues - VVA is going to be last Vietnam Era member standing…all turned over to AVVA. Change new chapter to 15 members. Next convention is in Orlando. Motion - send $200 to VVA chapter in KY. Rich’s granddaughter looking for something for Girl Scouts to Gold Star (like Eagle Scouts) projects.
